Smoke-free Environments (Prohibiting Smoking in Motor Vehicles Carrying Children) Amendment Bill

Introduced on June 17. The bill bans smoking in cars with those under 18 present with police able to issue a warning or a fine of $50 for offenders. First reading on June 25 and sent to the Health Committee with the support of all parties. Reported back on Dec 16 without amendment. Second reading completed on Feb 13 with all parties in support, but National MP said they would be seeking amendments including extending the ban to vehicles that are also homes. Committee stage completed on March 11 with Opposition amendments defeated. Third reading on May 26 with all parties in support.
