  • Sale and Supply of Alcohol (Cellar Door Tasting) Amendment Bill

  • Member’s bill in the name of National’s Stuart Smith. The bill allows winery cellar doors to charge visitors for the samples of their own wine and adds an off-licence category for wineries holding an on-licence. First reading completed on Aug 1 with a personal vote of 105 in favour and nine opposed. The bill was sent to the justice committee. Reported back on April 2 2024 with amendments agreed by all MPs. Second reading completed on May 8 with 101 in favour and 21 against.

  • Sentencing (Reinstating Three Strikes) Amendment Bill

  • Introduced on June 25. The bill largely reinstates the legislative regime for sentencing repeat serious offenders known as the three-strikes law. First reading on June 25 with National, Act and NZ First in support. Sent to the justice committee to be reported back by Nov 1.

  • Therapeutic Products Act Repeal Bill

  • Introduced on June 24. The bill repeals the Therapeutic Products Act 2023. The bill being repealed, which has a commencement date of Sept 1 2026, is intended to replace the Medicines Act 1981 and the Dietary Supplements Regulations 1985. The gpvt intends to develop new proposals for the regulation of medicines, medical devices, and natural health products. In the interim, the Medicines Act 1981 and the Dietary Supplements Regulations 1985 will continue in force. First reading on June 25 with the bill sent to the health committee with National, Act and NZ First in favour. Report back due by Nov 1.
