KiwiSaver (Foster Parents Opting in for Children in their Care) Amendment Bill

Introduced on April 5. A member’s Bill in the name of Hamish Walker. It allows any foster parent (or kin carer) to set up a KiwiSaver  account for a foster child in their care. First reading debate interrupted on August 8 with Labour expressing doubts about the need for the Bill, but saying it would support to select committee. First reading completed on September 4 and referred to select committee with the Government parties still expressing doubts. Reported back on April 5 with minor changes. Second reading interrupted on May 22 with Labour indicating it would support. Second reading completed on June 26 with all parties in support. Name changed to KiwiSaver (Oranga Tamariki Guardians) Amendment Bill. Committee stage completed on  July 31 with govt parties rejecting an amendment by National to extend provisions.
